It is first strike ready...so maybe the first strike bolt doesn't have the soft touch.....I liked it though, dunno why they'd give it up?

ST vs non-ST... I haven't noticed a difference. Neither my Tac 8 with ST nor my T9 without ST break paint on a frequent basis. Maybe if you used really brittle paint... but even still, the bumper doesn't provide much cushion. At least compared to the Automag foamy tips which serve the same purpose. And my non-foamy bolt in my Mag doesn't break paint either.
I really think that the ST bolt is a bit over-hyped. The benefit you might get from a little cushion is totally negated when you lose the bumper and don't have a replacement. When the bumper flies off, you are left with a nice screw on the tip of your bolt, perfect for puncturing paint...
