Do you realize what you just started?

« on: July 17, 2010, 01:00:35 PM »

Ok, so, now that I've gotten the T8 paintjob outta my system, I want to get the B9 to the completed build phase and ready for a paintjob. The 2 main things that are holding back the completion are the magwell and stock.

Magwell; I dont want it to look like a grip anymore. I want it to look like somewhere a magazine would be slammed home. I bought stuff call Apoxie Scuplt, 1lb of it in black color, to build up the front of the grip and make it look better. However, I dont know how to go about that. I was thinking of designing a skull coming out of the grip, but I dunno. I think it would look too much like a Pirates of the Carribean themed gun. NOT what I'm going for.
I also was thinking about removing parts of the grip to expose the mag some while it is engaged. Something that would give it a "caged" look. I wasnt sure how that might effect the strucutral integrity of the grip.
So that is for the magwell, I think it will end up being a combo of the removal of some of the grip and use of the Apoxie Sculpt, so help me out with a design.

Stock; I dont really like the leather cord wrap that I did. I still like the look of the leather, and I would like to incorporate that, but not the way I have it now. I was thinking about trying to fill in some of the space buy bolting/riveting/gluing something to the steel flatstock that is serving as the butt-end of the stock. Again, not sure what to use, or how to go about it, so help me out.

I would like to get this all done and have it painted by the beginning of next season. Thanks for any help/comments/heckling. I will post a current picture soon! (I'm at work. No camera or B9 Sad)

EDIT: Pic is here!

I added the pic and I think I may have a design for cutting the grip. Im also thinking that I may redesign stock to make it look "fang-like"; thats the only way I can describe it. I will see if maybe I can photoshop it.

Also, I think I may use THIS FROM MAGPUL for my stock pad.

Come on guys, I want to hear what you have to say.

I think it would look good if you cut some slots down the body and shroud to expose the barrel. For the but stock it would look good if you made it solid from the magwell back and you could make it hold an extra mag inside the stock for a quick change.

If I get some free time, I'll maybe work on a rough 3D mock up that way it will be easier to visualize changes.

I agree. I dunno how you'd do it, but I also think it would be cool to fill in that area by the stock (on both sides) and put a fake mag in the back, to make it look kinda like a TAR-21

sorry on the hyperlink. im a retard apparently.

I dont really like the fake mag idea, just because Im not going for a "mil-sim" look or replicating anything in particular, I want this to have its own look and accentuate what it has to offer; like an ACTUAL magazine design as opposed to the B5 kit that has a fake mag and runs off a hopper.

I dont know if I'm going to use that magpul pad or not. Just not sure.

I probably wont try and expose the barrel, just because that shroud is hollow and it would take ALOT of time and patience to cut holes then make it look good; as well as not having it mess up the linkage and stuff that is running through there.

Im going to redesign the stock structure and get it off the magwell. That way I have more freedom to cut and redesign the magwell as I please.

how about making a stock that attaches to either the saftey screw or the shroud screw. that would intigrate the magwell into the stock and make it look like less of a pistol grip.
